Ms. Brigid Aylward
Nurse Lecturer
University of Doha for Science and Technology, Qatar
I am currently a Nurse Lecturer at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST). I hold a Master’s Degree in Nursing with over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, quality improvement and nurse education in both Ireland and Qatar.
Before joining UDST, I worked at Sidra Medicine where I led the development of clinical standards, policies, and competency frameworks, including emergency response protocols. I also designed and delivered CPD-accredited workshops for physicians and nurses, focusing on clinical skills, enhancing critical thinking and applying patient safety principles.
My professional achievements include implementing competency frameworks that increased nurse proficiency across key clinical areas to >95%, enhancing both standards of practice and patient outcomes. I have presented research at national and international conferences on topics including childhood obesity and blood transfusion safety.
My areas of expertise include blood transfusion safety, pediatric nursing care and clinical skills in hematology/oncology nursing. Additionally, I am experienced in upskilling nurses for the activation and expansion of clinical services, incorporating responding to an emergency in high-pressure situations.
I am passionate about shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals and continually striving for excellence in clinical practice and education.
