Dr. Abdullah Dukhail AlKhathami is a Consultant in Family and Community Medicine with dual subspecialties in Primary Mental Health and Medical Education. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the WONCA Working Party on Mental Health, a position he has held since 2004.
With over two decades of leadership in medical education and mental health integration, Dr. AlKhathami developed the AlKhathami Five-Step Patient Interview Approach—a validated and practical tool designed to embed mental health screening and care into routine primary care consultations.
He has led and published influential research on mental health training for primary care physicians and is internationally recognized as a WHO/WONCA expert consultant on the integration of mental health into family practice and primary healthcare systems.
Dr. AlKhathami has also authored several training curricula, including the widely used “Guide to Medical Teaching & Learning for Trainers” (2018), and continues to supervise postgraduate theses in family medicine.
