Professor Farah Naja

Professor Farah Naja is a Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Sharjah. She is an internationally recognized nutrition epidemiologist whose research focuses on the role of diet and lifestyle in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Her recent work has increasingly explored the integration of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) into evidence-based public health and clinical nutrition. Professor Naja leads several multidisciplinary research projects examining the prevalence, determinants, and health impacts of CAM use in Middle Eastern populations, particularly in the context of chronic disease management and women’s health. Her publications have contributed to shaping the understanding of how traditional healing practices, herbal medicine, and dietary supplements intersect with conventional healthcare systems.
Recipient of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Best Arab Researcher (2023), Professor Naja has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications and led the first regional cohort study on nutrition and lifestyle in the Middle East (MINA), in Beirut and Doha. Through her research and advocacy, she promotes culturally sensitive, integrative approaches that bridge scientific rigor with traditional health practices.
