Dr. Yassir Aliftaihat

Dr. Yasser Abdel Hamid Al-Aftihat is an Associate Professor of Private Law, specializing in medical law, particularly the medical liability of healthcare professionals, the legal system for conducting medical research on human subjects and the resulting liability, and health insurance within the framework of comparative law. He began his academic career at the University of Mosul in Iraq, taught at several universities in the United Arab Emirates, and currently serves as a faculty member at the College of Law at Qatar University.
His research interests focus on legal issues related to medical practice, particularly organ transplantation, stem cell therapy, and surrogacy, as well as preventive legislation during health crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. His studies also focus on the legal aspects of environmental protection, particularly air pollution. Through his research, Dr. Al-Aftihat seeks to achieve a balance between the objectives of Islamic Sharia and modern legal standards, highlighting pioneering legislative models, such as the French Health Code, particularly in the field of biomedical research on human subjects; Qatari Law No. (15) of 2015 regulating organ transplantation, which is an advanced model in combating organ trafficking; and Qatari Law No. (6) of 2025 regulating health research, which represents a pivotal step toward enhancing legal protection for participants in health research and developing the national legislative structure in this field.
He has published scientific research in Arabic, French, and English, participated in several international conferences, and serves as a scientific reviewer for several peer-reviewed academic journals.
